It was winter, and I was feeling warmer listening to Caribbean soca music. I was moved to write my own song in that genre.
In the morning in the mirror
I check and see a wreck
It’s an image getting clearer
Like a rope around the neck
When I’m slipping from the tether
And falling in the stew
What keeps it all together
Is you
When I’m hot under the collar
You iron it out
When I didn’t have a dollar
Your wallet gave a shout
When I’m in a crazy mixture
Of attitude and brew
I’m leanin’ on a fixture
And it’s you
CHORUS
What would I do if you weren’t you
You
What would I do if you weren’t you
When I’m taken to the cleaners
And I’m swingin’ at curves
You never get meaner
Than I probably deserve
In good or bad weather
There’s only one glue
That keeps it all together
It’s you
CHORUS
In the morning in the mirror
I check and see me
It’s an image gettin’ clearer
When I wipe away the steam
If you say I got no need for
A lover so true
Let me tell you ‘bout my greed for
You
What would I do if you weren’t you
You
What would I do if you weren’t you
You you you you
What would I do if you weren’t you
You
What would I do if you weren’t you
